Summer Explorers Biology Camp
Great news! Youth participating in the summer musical at The Center for the Arts will be fully excused from rehearsals to attend the camp!
Registration Opens February 15, 2019. To register, see the registration section, below.
This day camp is a summer adventure! An infinite number of discoveries await your child at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center. They will explore the biology of prairies and wetlands, and have fun at the same time. They will make exciting new discoveries outdoors each day, meet other people who love to be outside and learn about wildlife, and enjoy three days of fun. Perhaps they have experienced the prairie during the school year in the fall, winter, and spring seasons. The summer prairie is a whole different delight! More flowers are blooming, more insects are jumping, frogs are hopping, and birds are nesting. So much to explore, discover, and wonder about!
Who can attend?
Students entering 5th or 6th grade in Fall 2019 who are curious and enjoy learning about nature and being in nature.
When is the camp?
- Tuesday, June 18, through Thursday, June 20. Hours:
- Tues. and Wed. 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- “Early Bird” Thurs. 6:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Campers are expected to attend all three days during the hours listed above. We expect parents to schedule other activities such as doctor appointments, family visits, music lessons, sports activities, etc. outside of these dates and times. We need campers to attend the entire camp.
Where is the camp?
The Summer Explorers Biology Camp is held at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center (PWLC) in Fergus Falls, MN. The PWLC includes a barn classroom plus 4 miles of trails in 330 acres of prairie with 28 wetlands.
Fergus Falls School District teacher Mona Davis and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service environmental educator Molly Stoddard.
This camp is not just a learning opportunity for students! Fifteen visiting educators attend the camp alongside students and learn techniques for teaching in the outdoors. Each student is part of a small team led by one of these teachers.
